Zine Machine Icons

The Zine Machine uses two different icon sets for the tool buttons to navigate and post to the system:

The configuration parameter icon_style can be set to gif or png to select either of the two styles shown.

GIF icons are simpler and smaller with a neutral grey colour scheme that will fit in with many designs. PNG icons are larger (in terms of file size), and full-colour; the colour may or may not be compatible with your design graphics.

Both icon styles use transparent backgrounds so they can be placed on solid-colour backgrounds. However, IE versions 6 and lower have a bug in handling transparent PNG graphics; PNG graphics might only give satisfactory cross-browser results on white backgrounds, therefore. We only use PNG icons for status indications, but these are only seen on administrator screens, so the IE bug should not be as serious an issue.

In addition to the tool buttons, the Zine Machine also has a number of icons used to show the article status to the moderator:

PNG icons come from the Silk Icon set, used under a Creative Commons license from http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/.

Tool Bars

Function tool bars are displayed following each article shown. The functions operate on the preceeding article.

Some indexes show multiple articles, and multiple levels/types of articles (eg. an e-Zine, which in turn holds articles, which in turn have comments). A toolbar operates on the article immediately above the toolbar. If an article is shown in abbreviated form (eg. a link or summary), then you will have to click in to the full article view to see its toolbar.

Some tools relate to indexes, rather than single articles (eg. archives, RSS). These are displayed after all articles in the index, and therefore relate to the index above them.
