CGSA Announces Amanda Frend as the
2025 CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award Winner

MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company are proud to announce Ms. Amanda Frend, Assistant Superintendent at Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto in Thornhill, Ontario, as the 2025 CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year.
The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award recognizes an assistant superintendent whose contributions to their golf facility go above and beyond expectations. Recipients demonstrate professionalism, leadership, innovation, and a team-focused approach while significantly impacting the success of their facility.
Amanda has been a CGSA member since 2016 and began her career at Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto in 2009 as a Groundskeeper, quickly advancing to Assistant Superintendent in 2014.
“I am truly humbled to be recognized as this year’s CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year. When Braydon called with the news, I was completely speechless—and to be honest, I still am."
For the past 17 years, the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto has been more than just a workplace; it has truly been my second home. I am incredibly grateful to the membership and especially to the club’s leadership for their trust, support, and commitment to fostering growth. Their belief in me has played a significant role in shaping both my career and the person I am today.
"This honour would not be possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, mentors, colleagues, and industry partners. Thank you for your guidance, encouragement, and for walking alongside me throughout this journey—I am forever grateful.”

John McLinden, AGS, Superintendent at Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto and Amanda’s nominator, said:
“Amanda has been an integral part of the Ladies Golf Club team since 2009 and is widely respected for her agronomic expertise, calm and solutions-focused leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence in turf management.
In 2024/25, she played a key leadership role in two major capital projects, including a complete bunker renovation and extensive landscaping around the newly refurbished clubhouse. Her strategic planning and hands-on management ensured both projects were completed on time, under budget, and with minimal disruption to play. Beyond her technical accomplishments, Amanda is a dedicated mentor and advocate for professional development, sustainability, and inclusion in the industry. As an original member of the Women in Turfgrass Management Mentor Program and a long-time volunteer at the CPKC Women’s Open, she is shaping the future of the profession while exemplifying the values of the CGSA.”
