CGSA Announces Taylor Brass as the 2018 CGSA/Foley United Equipment Technician of the Year Award Recipient

February 4th, 2019

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and FOLEY UNITED are pleased to announce Taylor Brass, Equipment Technician from the Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, British Columbia, as the CGSA/ FOLEY UNITED Equipment Technician of the Year Award winner for 2018.

The CGSA Equipment Technician of the Year Award is presented annually to the technician whose nomination is judged to be the best example of an individual who exhibits professionalism, innovation and a team approach to make a significant contribution to their golf facility and the golf community.

As the winner of this award, Taylor will receive an "All-Access" registration to The Canadian 2019 Golf Course Management Conference in Banff, Alberta from March 4-7, 2019, 4 nights' accommodation at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and transportation costs.

Taylor Brass has been a CGSA member since 2013.  Dean Piller, AGS nominated him for this award and said, “Having worked with Equipment Technicians for 35 years I am most impressed with Taylors’ computer skills and expertise in trouble shooting using information that can be sourced on the internet.  On the rare occasion that Taylor is unable to trouble shoot an equipment problem he is quick to source the answer online and fix even the most complicated equipment issues.  This resourcefulness is invaluable and a skill that I believe to be critical to the success of today’s top-rated Equipment Technicians.  Taylor embraces technology and uses it on a daily basis to perform his job in a timely and professional manner. Beyond all the day-to-day duties you would expect an Equipment Technician to perform, Taylor is quick to help with activities out on the golf course including maintenance chores in the morning.  He also is the pilot of our drone several days per week and has built an historical photo database of our course conditions year-round using these photos.”

“Congratulations Taylor for your outstanding contribution to the team at Cordova Bay Golf Course. You have proven your commitment to excellence, and you have elevated the standard of the Cordova Bay Golf Course to the highest level! I was fortunate to be the one to call Taylor with the good news and he was beyond thrilled and honoured to be chosen as the winner. ”
- Kendall Costain, MS, CGSA President

Congratulations to Taylor Brass for the exceptional efforts that we think all superintendents look for in their ‘right-hand man’.  Taylor’s work ethic and ability to solve problems is truly exemplary in his field and we know what a vital role that he and his colleagues play in producing premium turf conditions.  Bottom line is if the equipment’s not right, usually the turf isn’t either!  As a sponsor of the Most Valuable Technician Award in the U.S. for many years, we’re excited to expand this support to the Canadian Association, and we say thank you to the CGSA and all involved.  Once again, hat’s off Taylor for being the recipient of an award that deserves the recognition!

Mr. Brass will be presented with his award as part of the 2019 CGSA Awards Luncheon. This ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. We hope you will come out and congratulate Taylor. To register for the conference or to attend the awards ceremony please visit https://golfsupers.com/banff2019.

About Foley United
Foley United has been manufacturing grinders for the turf industry since 1926 and has been the most innovative grinder supplier in the world.  The greatest evolution of grinder technology started in 1993 with Foley’s introduction of the AccuMaster, the first fully enclosed, fully automated table-top spin/relief reel grinder.  This unit addressed dust and noise issues in the shop while at the same time freed technicians to do other tasks while the machine did the work.  The innovation continues with a new patented rear roller mounting system introduced in 2015, making set-up more efficient and accurate than ever.  Grinders are the most important “shop tool” a maintenance facility can invest in and Foley’s engineering is all about capability and choice.  Their goal of providing superintendents equipment that allows them to do quick touch-up spin grinding or returning to OEM specifications is a mission that separates Foley United from everyone else.  See Foley’s full range of grinders at www.foleyunited.com .
