Know Before You Go

Notes to make your time at The Canadian Enjoyable. We are looking forward to seeing you in Banff for The Canadian Golf Course Management Conference. To our returning delegates welcome back and to our first-time attendees, we extend a warm welcome!

We’ve compiled a few notes with Mountains of Opportunity to make your time in Banff enjoyable.

Here is the on-site schedule for your information. It will also be available at registration, second floor, Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre.

To get to the Conference Centre from the Main Hotel; follow the Mr. Van Horne signs, they are eye level from the main hotel to the conference centre. Follow the direction of his arm to locate the Conference Centre.

Locations and Getting There
All Specialized Learning Workshops (SLWs), education sessions, equipment technicians’ program, Trade Show, Opening SociALL and Silent Auction will be held at the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is located at 405 Spray Ave. Local telephone number is 403-762-2211. Feel free to use this link for directions. 

There is a charge for parking at the Hotel of $15 per night for self-parking or $41 per night for valet. The self-parking rate is a specially negotiated rate for delegates of the conference.

If you’re arriving from the Calgary Airport, the Banff Airporter provides a shuttle service between the airport and Banff. Note that the town of Banff is located within the Banff National Park, you can purchase your park pass upon entry into the Park at the gates or online here. To travel while in Banff, take advantage of the ROAM public transit system. http://parkandroam.ca/.

Registration Desk and Credential Pick Up  
Your registration package will be available at the registration area, located at the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre on the Second Floor. Your package will include your name badge as well as any event tickets that you have with your package or have purchased individually. You will also be able to pick up your on-site program here.

If you are registered for a Specialized Learning Workshop (SLW) on Monday, March 4th you can pick up your credentials at the registration desk. All SLWs will take place at the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre, 2nd Floor.

The registration desk will open at 7:00 am from March 4 - 7 and close each evening at 5:00 pm and is located in the Conference Centre, 2nd Floor. There is still space in all seminars so if you've been on the fence about attending Register now!

Don’t forget to bring job postings for the job board and be sure to visit the job board near registration.

PLEASE NOTE if you have a food allergy we need to advise the catering staff ASAP. Please let Kathryn Wood (kwood [at] golfsupers [dot] com) know at your very earliest convenience so we can ensure a pleasant and safe dining experience.

Dress
Dress for the event is business or golf casual. We appreciate no jeans and no head gear in the sessions. We also ask that you remember to turn your mobile devices to silent or vibrate. The Opening SociALL is business casual or golf attire. Attire for the Awards Ceremony is the same. If attending the Sunset Gondola Reception please bring a coat. The gondola cars are not heated. you'll have the opportunity to visit outside and it can get chilly on the mountain. Don't forget your camera!

There will be coat racks near registration. Please note CGSA is not responsible for lost items.

Continuing Education Credits
The main conference education program begins on Tuesday, March 5th at 8:00 am. with the Opening Ceremonies in the Ballroom at the Conference Centre. For the Tuesday - Thursday sessions, if you are interested in obtaining your provincial IPM and/or pesticide license recertification credits you will need to ENSURE you sign the forms at the END of the SESSIONS.  We have incorporated a 10 minute window between sessions to do this and for you to get to the next session. Please make sure you see one of our staff or volunteers just outside the session room. You will still need to track your own attendance at the sessions, but this is the back-up that gets sent to the various agencies verifying your attendance at the session.

All Specialized Learning Workshops on Monday will have traditional sign in sheets. Please make sure that you sign the appropriate sheet at the end of the SLW.

Here is a look at the CEC options for all SLW and Conference Education Sessions. Note we are still waiting for a couple of additional approvals.

Trade Show
This year the trade show will be held at the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre, 2nd Floor which is just across the street from the hotel. You can also access the conference centre inside from the Fairmont. The Opening Trade Show SociALL is on Tuesday and will start at 4:00 pm. to 7:00 pm. All registrants and exhibitors are welcomed and encouraged to attend!

Dedicated trade show times starts Wednesday at 9:00 am. until 2:00 pm. Lunch will be available as well as the Industry Sessions, so you can continue your learning during your time in the show.

Be sure to visit the Silent Auction which is open on Tuesday from 4:00 pm. – 7:00 pm. and Wednesday from 9:00 am. – 1:30 pm. A list of winning bidders will be available at registration at 3:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon. Here is a list of items available. Special thank you to the donors!

Networking Events
The networking begins on Monday evening when the AGSA in partnership with Bayer is hosting a Welcome to Alberta Event at the Banff Ave Brewery. A great opportunity to meet up with your colleagues and enjoy some western hospitality. You'll need you badge for entrance.

The Awards Lunch will take place on Tuesday, 11:45 am, Alhambra Room in the main hotel on the Mezzanine 2 level.

The Trade Show SociALL is happening in the trade show on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 4 pm.

The Assistants and Students Networking Event will take place on Tuesday after the SociALL at Banff Ave Brewery from 7:30 - 9:30 pm.

Annual General Meeting is Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 am, breakfast will be served starting at 6:30 am for CGSA members. All members must check-in with staff and only voting members will get a voting card.

We'll have the opportunity to enjoy the sunset while networking high a top Sulphur Mountain at the Sunset Gondola Reception. Be sure to catch the bus starting at 3:45 pm in the Motor Coach area in the Lobby of the Hotel.

Thursday continues with some excellent educational opportunities.
