Disappointing News During Today's Ontario Government COVID-19 Briefing

Ontario We Are Golf COVID-19 Update
affiché le mai 13, 2021

NGCOA Canada and our Ontario We Are Golf partners want to express our profound disappointment with the news of the extended lockdown measures. Since April 17th, the golf community has engaged in numerous meetings with the government and MPPs to clearly articulate that golf should never have closed.

Golf is undeniably safe and that is a credit to all the golf clubs and course operators who have implemented stringent protocols to create a safe recreational experience. To be clear, mobility is absolutely not an issue with the sport and many other safe outdoor activities. In fact, the Ontario Government’s own Ontario COVID-19 Science Table “recommended the province limit mobility expressly to discourage high-risk activities which could lead to indoor exposure”. The data from 2020 is clear that golf is being played within golfers’ home communities. We have addressed the Government of Ontario’s concerns with clear science and data.

We are fully aligned with the countless medical experts and government officials calling for the opening of outdoor activities which will positively impact the physical and mental health of Ontarians. Outdoor activities are not only good for you, they are safe.

This is frustrating. Know that we will not stop advocating on behalf of golfers and courses.
