The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company are pleased to announce Mr. Ryan Marangoni, Assistant Superintendent from the Burlington Golf & Country Club in Burlington, Ontario, as the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award winner for 2020.
The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course assistant superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation, and a team approach in their work.
Ryan has been a CGSA member since 2012 and has been an active member in the golf industry for 15 years, 7 of those in the capacity of an Assistant Superintendent. He is currently First Assistant at Burlington Golf and Country Club. Ryan graduated from Penn State University and went overseas to co-op at Sunningdale Golf Club in England. He then worked at several high-end clubs in the GTA; including The Toronto Golf Club, Brantford Golf & Country Club and Cutten Fields.
Dean Baker, CGCS, Superintendent at Burlington Golf and Country Club nominated Ryan for this award and said, "His past experiences showed me someone who had truly extended himself outside "the comforts of home" to gain as much experience as he could. He arrived at Burlington with his strong resume and a confidence that won me over. Ryan would explain to me you don't have to look any further...I'm your guy. I hired him shortly after. He possesses a quiet demeanor, he's methodical, a thinker."
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ryan on winning the 2020 CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award. It gave me great pleasure to be the one who called him to inform him he is the winner of this prestigious award. Ryan brings outstanding leadership abilities to everything he does. He has a strong work ethic with a keen interest in learning all aspects of Golf Course Management. He will undoubtedly represent the CGSA and Toro very well. We are thrilled that Toro is a large supporter of the CGSA and continues to sponsor our Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award!”
- Darren Kalyniuk, CGSA President
