Accredited Golf Superintendent Designation

The Accredited Golf Superintendent™ or AGS® designation was implemented on July 1, 2006. It is available to CGSA members who meet the criteria noted below.

AGS® Eligibility

  • Three (3) consecutive years experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent 
  • Achieve fifty (50) Continuing Education Credits (CEC) within the three (3) previous years
  • Must be a CGSA Member in good standing in either the Golf Superintendent or Golf Course Management categories when you submit your application
  • Complete the exam with the established passing grade (exam is two (2) hours in length with one hundred (100) questions) and achieve an overall mark of 70% and a minimum grade of 50% in each section)

Examination

The AGS® examination consists of 100 multiple choice type questions (open book format) relating to level one and two skills in the National Occupational Standards. Please refer to the Recommended Readings sheet for the study material for this exam. You have the option of writing the exam either at the CGSA office, a local College or University, or in your local region. A post-secondary faculty member or a CGSA member who currently holds either the AGS or MS designation is also eligible to Proctor your exam.Candidates must achieve the required passing grade of an overall mark of 70% and a minimum grade of fifty percent (50%) in each section.

After earning the Accredited Golf Superintendent™ designation you must retain your Superintendent status and you much achieve 90 continuing education credits (CEC) over a 5 year period. This procedure helps keep Accredited Golf Superintendents updated on new developments through participation in educational seminars, conferences and other related activities.

NOTE: If you allow your designation to lapse, you must fulfill the current requirements of the program and rewrite the current exam to obtain your designation.
