The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course assistant superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation and a team approach in their work.

Nick has been a CGSA member since 2019 and he has been in the golf course industry since 2013. He is going into his 5th season with the Capilano Golf and Country Club. Prior to Capilano, Nick was 2nd Assistant Superintendent from 2017-2018 at Nicklaus North Golf Course. Nick graduated with his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with Honours from the University of Canberra, Australia in 2009 and has also completed online certificates with Ohio State University (Golf Course Management) and Penn State University (Turf Management).

Stuart Sheridan, AGS nominated Nick for this award. Nick has been his right-hand man since hiring him as 2nd Assistant in 2019. Stuart promoted Nick to Assistant Superintendent after stepping into the Superintendent position and then to Senior Assistant Superintendent in 2021. “I needed to have someone I could trust on-site at all times. Nick would take on this opportunity and challenge with the same energy, enthusiasm and dedication that he has always shown.”

“In short, Nick continues to push himself to develop as a person, leader, and industry professional. He embraces challenges, he leads by example, and, when the correct opportunity presents itself, he will be a fantastic Golf Couse Superintendent,” said Stuart Sheridan, AGS, Superintendent at Capilano.

"Those closest to Nick Daley describe him as someone who possesses a calm, professional, enthusiastic demeanor. Someone who is determined to advance his career. His outstanding leadership and the mentorship to numerous staff has helped several staff advance in their careers.
