The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company, the award sponsor, are pleased to announce Sean Brillinger, AGS, Superintendent of Heron Point Golf Links in Alberton, Ontario as the CGSA Gordon Witteveen Award winner for 2024.

The Gordon Witteveen Award, sponsored by The Toro Company, is presented annually by the CGSA to the superintendent or assistant superintendent who has authored the best article for publication in the CGSA GreenMaster magazine during the past year. Sean's article entitled "Heron Point Golf Links: Return of the Eagle", which was published in the Winter 2024 issue of GreenMaster, was judged by a panel of peers and Sean was unanimously chosen as the winner.

“It was an absolute privilege to inform Sean of his article winning the Gordon Witteveen Award. Sean’s article was a fantastic story of how a golf course can go above and beyond to enhance the natural surroundings," said Cameron Kusiek, Chair, CGSA Communications Editorial Committee. "Too often activists paint golf with a negative brush pushing the agenda of water and pesticide use. The staff at Heron Point Golf Links not only illustrated how golf and nature harmoniously coexist, but also how wildlife can be set up to thrive in the ecosystems that golf creates. Congratulations on the success of your team’s efforts and a tremendously written article Sean. You should all be very proud.”

Mr. Brillinger will receive an All Access conference registration, a cash award of $500 generously donated from the Toro Company, up to $500 in travel expenses and will be presented with the Gordon Witteveen Award during the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, February 25 as part of The Canadian Golf Course Management Conference.

We hope you will participate and congratulate Sean on winning the 2024 Gordon Witteveen Award. To register for the conference or to attend the awards ceremony please visit The Canadian.

CGSA encourages everyone to submit articles to enhance the magazine and share your story with your colleagues.
