MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company are pleased to announce Mr. Sean Leach, Associate Superintendent Point Grey Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia as the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award winner for 2024.
The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course assistant superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation and a team approach in their work.
Sean has been a CGSA member since 2015 and has been in the golf course industry since 2010. He is going into his 6th season with Point Grey Golf & Country Club. Prior to Point Grey, Sean was Assistant Superintendent at Cottonwood Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Alberta. “All my achievements are a product of the generous and passionate nature of our industry and community. I am here only because of the support from my mentors, peers and colleagues. I am grateful to Toro and the CGSA for the award and indebted to all those who have supported my nomination. I am extremely honoured and humbled in receiving the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year,” – Sean Leach.
Tyler Patroch, AGS, Superintendent at Vancouver's Point Grey Golf Club nominated Sean for this award and has had the privilege of working alongside Sean for the past 10 years, where he has experienced his passion, dedication, and exceptional commitment to the golf industry.
“One of Sean's greatest strengths is his unwavering commitment to giving back to the turf management industry. As Point Grey’s primary point of contact for the Vancouver Turf Internship, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of turf care. Since the program's inception in 2019, Sean has worked tirelessly to ensure that each intern receives a balanced experience that includes leadership development, practical training, and valuable mentorship. This approach has helped guide six interns toward becoming successful Assistant Superintendents,” said Tyler Patroch, AGS, Superintendent at Point Grey.

As the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year winner, Sean will receive an "All-Access" registration to The Canadian 2025 Golf Course Management Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario from February 25-27, 2025, 4 nights' accommodation and transportation costs. Toro will provide a stipend for meals and incidental expenses during the conference, and they cover his CGSA 2025 membership dues. Sean is also invited to attend the Toro Experience for Assistant Superintendents, an exclusive event hosted at The Toro Company Headquarters in Bloomington MN in August of each year, including round-trip airfare and accommodations during the event.
