posted on Jan 29, 2021

The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company, the award sponsor, are pleased to announce Reid Solodan, AGS of the Canmore Golf & Curling Club in Canmore, Alberta as the CGSA Gordon Witteveen Award winner for 2020.

The Gordon Witteveen Award, sponsored by The Toro Company, is presented annually by the CGSA to the superintendent or assistant superintendent who has authored the best article for publication in the CGSA GreenMaster magazine during the past year. Reid's article entitled "Vermicomposting 101", which was published in the Fall 2020 issue of GreenMaster, was judged by a panel of peers and Reid was unanimously chosen as the winner.

"It was an hour for me to contact Reid to notify him of this award," said Braydon Gilbert, AGS, CGSA Communications and Editorial Committee Chair. "We want to thank all authors who have contributed to the magazine and encourage members to continue to submit articles for their magazine."

Reid's article chronicles the plan to implement a vermicomposting project at Canmore. A plan to eliminate noxious odors and eliminate release of methane gas into our atmosphere; prevent leaching of harmful and toxic substances; closes the nutrient loop and turning waste into soil health. To read Reid's article visit: (GreenMaster Fall Issue).
Reid has been a CGSA member since 1994 and holds the association's Accredited Golf Superintendent (AGS) designation. He has been the Superintendent at Canmore Golf & Curling Club since 2004. Reid also received the 2019 CGSA/Rain Bird Environmental Achievement Award.

Mr. Solodan will receive an All Access conference registration, a cash award of $500 generously donated from the Toro Company and will be presented with the Gordon Witteveen Award during the Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 as part of The Canadian Golf Course Management Virtual Conference.

We hope you will participate and congratulate Reid on winning the 2020 Gordon Witteveen Award. To register for the conference or to attend the awards ceremony please visit The Canadian.

CGSA encourages everyone to submit articles to enhance the magazine and share your story with your colleagues.
